UMG has announced that this termination is due to the deal expiring on January 31st. The reason given by UMG is that the deal has become less valuable and have accused TikTok of disregarding piracy concerns. In reply the app insisted that these accusations were false and even accused UMG of being greedy, disregarding the concerns of individual artists, and daily users.

UMG artists, like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and others songs will not be available in the App’s Music Library and any videos featuring their songs will be silenced.

UMG boasts an impressive roster of artists, encompassing a wide range of talents from rising stars to well-established icons. Among them are Taylor Swift, Drake, Sean Paul, Camila Cabello, Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Harry Styles, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Daddy Yankee, DJ Snake, Jonas Brothers, DJ Khaled, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and many more.

UMG expressed their dissatisfaction

On Thursday, a representative of UMG claimed that the agreement had lapsed due to TikTok’s irresponsible conduct towards both artists and users. He mentioned that the App’s ignorance towards AI and the piracy of the artists resulted in this hard decision.

He further stated the allegations as false, it has been continuously portraying UMG as greedy, even though UMG has been putting in all the effort.

UMG sent out a cautionary message to all the other artists and agencies, informing them about TikTok’s policies and actions.

UMG made sure to address several crucial aspects in their letter. They emphasized the need for fair compensation for their artists, protecting them from the potential risks of AI, and ensuring the safety of user data.

Despite having a vast audience and generating substantial ad revenue, TikTok is reportedly paying significantly less than other comparable social media platforms. It is worth noting that App’s contribution to UMG’s total revenue is merely 1%.

UMG has expressed concerns about TikTok’s alleged exploitation of artists through the implementation of unjust policies, as well as its handling of user data. One of UMG’s executives recently brought up the concern that the App might be sharing users’ data with other institutions without their consent.
